These Boots for made for Talking about: Is Christianity a Crutch?

After a time of turning this over and over in my mind, here is what the Holy Spirit revealed to me: YES! Unequivocally YES! Think about it. When you break your leg, the doctor puts you on crutches because you need them until your leg is restored to health. Christians see God as the Great Physician, and we believe that, “ For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10 NIV) We know that we can always lean on Jesus. His Word also says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV) In our sickness we need Him to be our Healer. In our confusion we need Him to be our wisdom. In our loneliness we need Him to be our companion. In our time of neediness we need Him to provide. YES! We need Jesus as our crutch because we know we cannot do life on our own, nor do we choose to so. We know we are sinful people, broken people, less than perfect people: who need forgiveness and grace from a loving Father that never judges or rejects us like other people might do.
So if you are living your life “in charge” or “in control” of everything, not needing others, or perhaps you have looked to other crutches such as: alcohol, drugs, materialism, pornography or even bad company~may I suggest very gently and kindly to you today to remember the reason Christianity is a crutch to us is because that crutch was made out of a tree, and that tree was the cross that Jesus died upon so that we could live a grace filled life, free from guilt and shame, blessed with power in our weakness. Jesus is the “Who” that we receive the restoration and healing for our damaged emotions, broken bodies and sick spirits from. You can call us weak, which is okay with us. Just know that we are being restored daily and have an eternal wholeness that we put our hope in daily for we know life here on earth is temporary. That hope we call Jesus is pure love that drives out fear.
I hope by talking about this it will help someone out there to actually put the boots of humility on, and admit that you don’t want to do life alone any more. Not because you are strong enough to do it on your own, but because in your weakness you are made strong in Christ through His grace!!!
These boots were made for talking about the truth and teaching others and myself to walk it out in real life. God Bless YOU!
Love always,
Deborah Lovett
